Paul's Additive

Sam and Jack – ASUS Website Redesign.

Not terribly organised at this point but you two appear to have the skills to get this project going and catch up. Good idea to reorganise that website as it is a slight bit confusing at the moment, also a nice idea to use flash to make the site more user friendly. The Director example given gave a good idea as to what we might expect in the final form although it was a bit too simple at this point. Some people who own a laptop might not know the exact specifications of their machines so it will help to have simple buttons and options to help them find their way. I think at this point, your main focus of improvement is time spent on assignment and time management. I can see you guys are on the path to helping this site become more user friendly, so just spend more time each day on improving aesthetics and usability.

Jo, Juan and Zun – Job4You Website

Good concept with the combination of social aspect and job application. Lots of good prototype and mock images. Probably should have a working digital mock up soon; a base website in order to start setting things up in a proper space. It is a really good idea to keep related subjects such as students, staff, uni work and jobs together in on area. The main area to improve on is getting the skeleton of the site up in html or flash so you can get started on actually adding content and function. After that, perhaps get working on getting some publicity and beta testing to get a feel for how the system should work with multiple users. Good work on the prototype so far!

Ecco, Zhou and Lin – 3D Model of GP South

Really good idea and could potentially help out a lot of people new to the building. Instead of people getting lost in this large and somewhat confusing building, they will be able to pre-emptively work out where everything is in the building. However, this will require an amazingly large amount of work to model the building in 3D and you need to plan this out extensively to get everything done on time. As long as you have at least two members working on the model, you should be able to get the work done within a reasonable time. Basically, just make sure you have a solid plan to make sure all members are kept on track to get everything finished on time.

Prototype appraisal report

“Overcast” game level – Jarred

Good prototype of proposed level. You obviously have a good grip on how levels need to be constructed as well as a good understanding of design principles which you demonstrated well in your presentation. I liked the consideration and thought put into where what items are placed and how those can affect the game play. The audience now has a pretty good idea on what to expect in the next stages in terms of feel/game play for the game.

In terms for improvement for the prototype I don’t have many suggestions...yes, as it was awesome. The level probably is still in its rough stages so it’s understandable that it would feel incomplete, but in terms of presentation of the ‘prototype there are a couple of things.

It would have been nice to have seen some more work on the atmosphere side of things i.e. lighting could have been more dramatic, but the ideas were somewhat represented in the sample images you showed for the textures. Music would have been great, even though it might have just been the standard/default game music; it does help create somewhat more of an atmosphere for your audience and would help give them a more complete picture of the level and stimulate their interest more.

Very cool work Jarred :)

3G Mobile website/video – Tony and Tracey

Good research in terms of how the current information on the 3G website is layout out. There is quite a lot of information and functionality already implemented into the original website, are you planning on employing all of these into your site including the search/customer/logging on etc? The exact amount of content and what we could expect to see in there was a little unclear. Even if you drew up a map of the hierarchy it would have benefited your presentation in terms of making this clearer. The video was good; probably look at the running times for some cuts as the pacing still felt more like a video rather than ad. Also could add text/voiceover (or whatever really) at end of video, just to make it more ad-like and to give an explanation to the punch-line, which I thought was very funny.

Looking forward to more work being done :)
