Paul's Additive

Sam and Jack – ASUS Website Redesign.

Not terribly organised at this point but you two appear to have the skills to get this project going and catch up. Good idea to reorganise that website as it is a slight bit confusing at the moment, also a nice idea to use flash to make the site more user friendly. The Director example given gave a good idea as to what we might expect in the final form although it was a bit too simple at this point. Some people who own a laptop might not know the exact specifications of their machines so it will help to have simple buttons and options to help them find their way. I think at this point, your main focus of improvement is time spent on assignment and time management. I can see you guys are on the path to helping this site become more user friendly, so just spend more time each day on improving aesthetics and usability.

Jo, Juan and Zun – Job4You Website

Good concept with the combination of social aspect and job application. Lots of good prototype and mock images. Probably should have a working digital mock up soon; a base website in order to start setting things up in a proper space. It is a really good idea to keep related subjects such as students, staff, uni work and jobs together in on area. The main area to improve on is getting the skeleton of the site up in html or flash so you can get started on actually adding content and function. After that, perhaps get working on getting some publicity and beta testing to get a feel for how the system should work with multiple users. Good work on the prototype so far!

Ecco, Zhou and Lin – 3D Model of GP South

Really good idea and could potentially help out a lot of people new to the building. Instead of people getting lost in this large and somewhat confusing building, they will be able to pre-emptively work out where everything is in the building. However, this will require an amazingly large amount of work to model the building in 3D and you need to plan this out extensively to get everything done on time. As long as you have at least two members working on the model, you should be able to get the work done within a reasonable time. Basically, just make sure you have a solid plan to make sure all members are kept on track to get everything finished on time.

Prototype appraisal report

“Overcast” game level – Jarred

Good prototype of proposed level. You obviously have a good grip on how levels need to be constructed as well as a good understanding of design principles which you demonstrated well in your presentation. I liked the consideration and thought put into where what items are placed and how those can affect the game play. The audience now has a pretty good idea on what to expect in the next stages in terms of feel/game play for the game.

In terms for improvement for the prototype I don’t have many suggestions...yes, as it was awesome. The level probably is still in its rough stages so it’s understandable that it would feel incomplete, but in terms of presentation of the ‘prototype there are a couple of things.

It would have been nice to have seen some more work on the atmosphere side of things i.e. lighting could have been more dramatic, but the ideas were somewhat represented in the sample images you showed for the textures. Music would have been great, even though it might have just been the standard/default game music; it does help create somewhat more of an atmosphere for your audience and would help give them a more complete picture of the level and stimulate their interest more.

Very cool work Jarred :)

3G Mobile website/video – Tony and Tracey

Good research in terms of how the current information on the 3G website is layout out. There is quite a lot of information and functionality already implemented into the original website, are you planning on employing all of these into your site including the search/customer/logging on etc? The exact amount of content and what we could expect to see in there was a little unclear. Even if you drew up a map of the hierarchy it would have benefited your presentation in terms of making this clearer. The video was good; probably look at the running times for some cuts as the pacing still felt more like a video rather than ad. Also could add text/voiceover (or whatever really) at end of video, just to make it more ad-like and to give an explanation to the punch-line, which I thought was very funny.

Looking forward to more work being done :)

Storyboard Story Idea

Starting on the storyboards yesterday, I ended up with a coherent storyline, so thought I’d run it past you both before I started sketching it out fully. If you really disagree with it, then I need you to tell me straight-away, so I can mush together something else and get sketching before Wednesday.

CHARACTERS:

Main Person

Anyone about our age. I gave them a hoodie(to hide the face if necessary) and an iPod (cos they’re gonna listen to music).

The Rock

Literally. I’m still on the rock idea, but I’ve turned it into more than just a rock. I’ve taken the statement “She/he’s my rock.” literally. This Rock (it requires a capital) gets kicked and thrown and kicked again, but still comes back to our main character. It’s got more of a pet rock status and tends to follow the main character (MC) around.

Friends of Main Person

They have the car for the road trip. Oh yeah!

THE PREMISE:

I have written the story as it would be filmed in real-time, but I want the whole thing to play in reverse. So we start the shot with the rock in screen, with the main person walking backwards towards it, before it shoots up out of the screen from where it landed. The next shot will start at the point where the person has kicked the rock then follow it back to it just sitting on the pavement with the person still walking towards it, in reverse.

So read the story as it happens, then imagine it happening in slow-motion reverse, drifting along much like the music is at the moment.

THE STORY

We start with a person sitting in their room, surrounded by everything they’ve bought and ever wanted, content with the way things are. There’s a rock sitting innocently on their window-sill (or somewhere obviously in shot).

They check their watch, then dart out of the room, picking up their back-pack as they go out the door. Walking to the train-station, our attention is brought to a rock sitting innocently on the pavement, which is absent-mindedly kick out of the way as they walk past.

On the train now, it’s just them listening to their iPod (or not) and watching the scenery fly-by.

Next is them walking into sight of their friends, who are waiting near the meeting point with a car, ready for a road trip.
They go out into the bush (or wherever we decide to film) and eat and play and have a good day. The main person goes off by themselves for a while. Standing in a field with the wind going thru their hair and nothing technological around them, they realise all the troubles of the world dwindle in the face of the raw wilderness of mother nature. They breathe in the fresh air deeply. Wandering back to the others, the person spots a rock that looks remarkably like the one they kicked this morning. Picking up, they look at it thoughtfully, before skimming it out across a body of water.

The trip home is quieter, with people snoozing in the back and the others talking over the days events.

Happy, the main person gets dropped off at home and goes straight to their room. Sitting down in the same place as before, they look around and suddenly the room full of all the stuff they’ve ever wanted isn’t good enough anymore.

Irritated, they quickly stalk out of their room again, heading off to the station again.

Events repeat, with the same angles as before, except our main person is stalking along this time. Once again, our attention is brought to the rock sitting innocently on the pavement, except this time it’s soaking wet. It gets kicked violently out of the way again and the final shot is it landing disparagingly into the middle of the frame, as the person stalks off down the street, leaving it to fend for itself.

EPILOGUE?

If I haven’t confused you yet, that’s good. It’s confusing writing it. So let me know what you think asap, because I don’t want to wait any longer than tonight (at the latest Sunday) to start sketching it out.

Pretty please / onegaishimasu / dankeshun(sp?)

Project as a SMART goal

this is waht I took of our original SWOT thiny...ts basically the S and M...

Aim to create a high quality and professional Multimedia Project that incorporates audio, video and a website for self promotion. This project is aimed to promote its group members as professionals and to be used as their portfolios for future employment.

To incorporate the following into our website:
- streams high quality video and audio sound.
- podcast like capabilities (optional)
- forum or wall posting section (optional)
- a good interface design that makes navigation clear and easy to use.
- minimal clicks needed to navigate through to content
- clear flow of contents and pages
- Engaging interface: audio and interactivity

To create or have access to the following in order to assist with shooting and creating the clip:
- rough sketches and thumbnails
- storyboards
- Access to borrowed equipment and bookings via online booking system
- rough pre-visualisation clips with audio
- enough time

To create a video clip that will be able to
- be streamed online without loss of quality
- be formatted to standard television format
- clear audio and image

Audio does not clip or distort, clears the groups inspection, sound appeals to test target audience.

Tasks Breakdown (001)

Well, at the moment this isn't all set in stone. I think it's important for each of us to focus on one main area of interest in this project rather than trying to jump around everywhere at once. Only because we need to make whatever it is we've commit to as good as we possibly can and make is as professional as possible. Not saying that this means we're stuck to one thing, but just saying it wont be always possible for everyone to do everything as this might lower the quality of the overall product.

At he moment the breakdown of main tasks looks like this.

Bec:

musician/recorder, video/visual concept artist, storyboard artist, video director, video production, post production.

Paul:

(digital )musician/audio mixer/compositor, digital video SFX/compositor, digital audio producer, post production, graphics

Mish:

interface designer ?not sure this can apply anymore? graphics, animation, flash ..
